What is the typical lead time for ordering a shed?2023-07-12T13:32:14+01:00

When ordering through Derby Sheds, we like to keep lead times down to a minimum as much as possible. Our promise to you is to keep you informed along the way so if there are any delays, you will be made aware. As expected, some sizes take longer than others as unlike some other competitors, we don’t use a manufacturer, instead we build ourselves, therefore lead times can be slightly longer. Please see below an estimated guide for lead times;

Sheds – 2-4 weeks

Summerhouses – 6-8 weeks

Concrete garages/store sheds – 4-6 weeks

Can I customise the design of my shed?2023-07-12T11:09:17+01:00

Yes! And we are more than happy to help with the process of this, we conduct a free site visit for each customer and during this time, it helps us talk through designs with yourself to achieve the shed or summer house you want. Everyone has their own design in mind and we thrive off creating this for you.

How do I maintain and care for my shed?2023-11-16T16:27:23+00:00

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and durability of your timber shed. Here’s a guide to help you maintain your timber shed effectively:

  1. Regular Cleaning:
    • Remove any debris, leaves, or dirt from the roof, walls, and floor of the shed using a broom or brush.
    • Use a mild detergent or specialized wood cleaner mixed with water to wash the shed’s exterior surfaces. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before applying any finishes or treatments.
  2. Inspection:
    • Regularly inspect the shed for signs of damage, such as rot, cracks, or loose boards. Pay attention to the corners, joints, and areas prone to water exposure.
    • Check for any pest infestations, such as termites or wood-boring insects. Treat the affected areas promptly to prevent further damage.
  3. Treatment and Protection:
    • Apply a protective finish or stain to the exterior surfaces of the shed. This helps to repel water, prevent UV damage, and enhance the shed’s appearance. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and reapplication intervals.
    • Treat the timber with a suitable wood preservative to protect against rot, fungi, and insect attacks. Choose a preservative that is compatible with the type of wood used in your shed.
  4. Ventilation:
    • Ensure proper ventilation inside the shed to prevent moisture build-up. Install vents or louvers to allow air circulation, reducing the risk of mould, mildew, and rot.
    • Avoid storing damp or wet items inside the shed as they can contribute to excess moisture.
  5. Roof Maintenance:
    • Inspect the roof regularly for loose or damaged shingles. Replace or repair them promptly to prevent leaks and water damage.
    • Trim overhanging branches to prevent them from rubbing against the roof and causing damage.
  6. Foundation:
    • Check the shed’s foundation regularly for any signs of shifting or sinking. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain a level and stable base.
  7. Regular Insulation Check:
    • Inspect the shed’s insulation, if applicable, to ensure it’s in good condition. Replace any damaged or degraded insulation to maintain proper temperature and moisture control.
  8. Snow and Ice Removal:
    • If you live in an area with heavy snowfall, regularly remove snow from the roof to prevent excessive weight that can damage the shed’s structure. Use a roof rake or a long-handled brush to clear the snow without causing any harm.

Remember, regular maintenance is key to preserving the quality and longevity of your timber shed. Following these guidelines and attending to any issues promptly will help ensure that your shed remains in excellent condition for years to come.

What is Treatment?2023-07-12T10:37:22+01:00

Here at Derby Shed Company, we offer you a choice in dip treatment, this is either the floor only or the entire shed. Dip treated sheds in full are the most common and they can be recognised by their orange/amber colour finish. Dip treating is the quickest method of applying preservative to the timber. The wood is dipped in the preservative, providing it with a surface covering and giving a 10 year guarantee. Although this is entirely your own decision when ordering, we highly recommend opting for a full drip treatment to cover all bases of protection.
